Austin, United States
I am a retired U.S. Foreign Service Specialist and former U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer. I served in The Gambia from 1980-84, then followed my husband when he became a diplomat in 1985, living in Cameroon; Bombay, India; Barbados, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire; Washington DC; Djibouti; and Germany, and working at odd jobs in his embassies. In 2003, I too joined the diplomatic corps, and served in Afghanistan; Sweden; Washington, DC; France; and Chennai, India, before retiring back to Austin, Texas in 2015.
By 1989, while living in Barbados, my world had become so big and colorful that I felt if I didn't paint, I'd explode. So I painted. Since then I've been in over a dozen art exhibits, including two international biennials:
-1993 - Grafolies: Biennial International Art exhibit, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire
-1992 - DAK ART'92 Biennial International, Museum of African Art, Dakar, Senegal
My work is in private collections in the United States and abroad. Besides painting and designing textiles, I make beaded jewelry, dipping into my large collection of antique, vintage, and curious contemporary beads.
